Astros open '05 season at home against Cardinals

HOUSTON -- The Houston Astros will begin the 2005 season where they left off in 2004, hosting the very team they played in the National League Championship Series last October.

The St. Louis Cardinals will visit Houston for a two-game, opening-week series April 5 and 6. Tickets for those games and all other home dates are on sale today.

The Astros will play 18 games in April against NL Central competition, including the Reds at home (April 8-10) and in Cincinnati (April 15-17), the Brewers at home (April 20-21), the Cardinals in St. Louis (April 22-24), the Pirates in Pittsburgh (April 25-27) and the Cubs at home (April 29-30, May 1).

The schedule features home series around Memorial Day vs. the Reds (May 30-June 1) and the Fourth of July vs. the San Diego Padres (July 4-7). The home slate also includes two weekend series vs. the Cardinals (June 3-5, Sept. 2-4) and a four-game weekend series vs. the San Francisco Giants (May 12-15).

Among the road trips is Houston's first visit to Washington, D.C., to face the Nationals, July 22-24.
