THE LION KING TICKETS INFORMATION: THE LION KING WILL ROAR INTO APPLETON
Wisconsin’s most eagerly awaited stage production is coming to Appleton in 2007.
DISNEY’S THE LION KING has been confirmed for a multi-week engagement at the
Fox Cities Performing Arts Center.
“Ever since the Center opened its doors in 2002, we have been working feverishly to bring THE LION KING to
Appleton,” said Susan Stockton, president of the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. “Together with our partners at Clear Channel Entertainment, we are absolutely thrilled and honored to be the first venue in Wisconsin to present this theatrical masterpiece.”
THE LION KING won’t be the first hit production to play in Appleton. Other well-known productions that have enjoyed successful runs include
The Producers, the new Mel Brooks Musical,
Mamma Mia! and
The Phantom of the Opera.
Joan Cochran, regional vice president for Clear Channel Entertainment commented that the reputation the Center has built during these engagements helped confirm the THE LION KING. “Much of the credit for securing this engagement goes to Center’s staff and the local community. Over the past three seasons, their audiences, skilled workforce and first-class facilities have convinced industry leaders that this venue deserves to host the biggest and best shows
Broadway has to offer,” added Cochran.
Now in its eighth sold-out year in New York at the New Amsterdam Theatre, THE LION KING is the winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, eight Drama Desk Awards, six Outer Critics Circle Awards, the New York Drama Critics Award for Best Musical, the Evening Standard Award for the Theatrical Event of the Year, two Olivier Awards, a Theatre World Award, the Astaire Award for Outstanding Choreography, two Drama League Award and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album.
Director Julie Taymor became the first woman in Broadway history to win the Tony Award® for Best Director of a Musical. Taymor, along with Michael Curry, created hundreds of masks and puppets for THE LION KING. Choreography is by Garth Fagan, scenic design is by Richard Hudson, costume design is by Julie Taymor and lighting design is by Donald Holder. The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed the animated film and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the screenplay for THE LION KING. The score features
Elton John and Tim Rice's music from the animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice, additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer.
