I know this is hard to believe, but, U.S. Concert Prices Drop 6 Percent from last year
U.S. Concert Prices Drop
United Press International
The average price for music concert tickets dropped as total ticket sales decreased 6 percent in the last six months, the trade magazine Pollstar reported.
Pollstar said its survey of the top 100 concerts in the United States over the past six months showed an average ticket price of $50.27 -- about 6 percent less than a year ago.
That cut into overall concert revenues, which slipped nearly three times as much -- 17 percent -- to $731 million. However, promoters told the magazine they weren't the ones hurting because musicians were demanding less to play.
The biggest concert ticket so far this year is
U2's tour, which commands an average ticket price of $96.94, and has earned $48.4 million, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The second half of the year could be good for concert promoters. In addition to more dates by U2, such blockbuster acts as
The Rolling Stones and
Paul McCartney open tours.
