The move is meant to curb scalping and make more seats available for other university employees who want them, Ohio State spokeswoman Amy Murray said.
More than 1,000 OSU students returned tickets last year after the school enacted the same rule for student seats before the 2004 season.
“We’re educating the public that there’s not a limitless pool of tickets that we can draw from,” associate athletic director Richelle Simonson said this week.
Tickets to each of the Buckeyes’ seven home games cost $58 for the general public. School employees can buy them for $47, and students can get them for $28.
Holders of the discounted tickets must show a valid university ID when they enter Ohio Stadium.
Robert Fudge, who works at OSU Medical Center, said he resented the new rule, which prohibits giving staff seats to relatives who aren’t immediate family or dependent children.
“It shouldn’t be this much of a hassle to give a ticket to my son,” said Fudge, whose son is 26. More>>>
