Promoters rescheduled several weekend concerts and other events on Thursday as Hurricane Katrina approached South Florida. But high-profile shows, including MTV's Video Music Awards on Sunday in Miami and a Green Day concert tonight in Sunrise, were going on as planned, as of Thursday night.
While MTV canceled all free concerts and pool parties scheduled for Thursday at "Hotel MTV," the Doubletree Surfcomber in Miami Beach, an MTV spokeswoman said other VMA-themed activities scheduled for today through Sunday, including the awards gala at American Airlines Arena, were still on tap
A message at the Office Depot Center's Web site said a concert by Green Day is "still scheduled to take place" at 7:30 tonight. The Office Depot Center in Sunrise also planned to go ahead with a WWE Raw Live wrestling match on Saturday.
Hard Rock Live in Hollywood postponed a Thursday night concert by country singer Tim McGraw to Sept. 19. Revolution, the Fort Lauderdale nightclub, pushed back a pair of weekend shows by the ska band The Radiators to Sept. 23 and 24. A show there at 9 tonight by Black Star -- rappers Mos Def and Talib Kweli -- "is currently on schedule," and will move from Revolution's patio to the indoor stage "for everyone's safety," said a notice posted on the venue's Web site.
