Chicago police increased their manpower at Sunday's World Series game not just for public safety's sake, but for consumer safety after two men were arrested Saturday for selling fake tickets.
Police arrested Arturo Gray, 31, and Wilbert Bentley, 29, who each were charged with theft for selling fake tickets to Game 1 outside U.S. Cellular Field.
Two would-be spectators approached police at the game Saturday night after they were denied entry to the game, each being suckered out of $300 for the tickets.
Officers quickly radioed the description of the two sellers, and they were arrested shortly afterward, police spokesman Carlos Herrera said.
Genuine game tickets have bar codes that are scanned at the gates at the ball park, a security measure that prevents counterfeiting, police said.
Gray, of the 5200 block of Calumet Avenue, and Bentley, of Milwaukee, could only be charged with theft because they sold fake tickets, which technically is not scalping, Herrera said.
Police discourage any baseball fans from purchasing their tickets on the street.
Ticket-scalping is a city code violation, which could result in scalpers either being arrested or being ticketed themselves —with a city citation, that is. Source>>>
