If you're trying to get a seat at the World Series through Ticketmaster, it's time to give up, White Sox fans. According to an official release issued by the White Sox, several thousand individual-game tickets to each World Series home game sold out Tuesday in just 18 minutes.
But you're still in the game. Local and national ticket brokers are staffing up and preparing employees to work extended hours to field demand for World Series tickets.
In Chicago, local brokers -- selling via the Internet and the phone -- are scrambling to answer calls while praying that their Web sites can take the increased hits.
"We have quite a few extra people than we usually do," said Rich Zasievida, sales manager at Chicago-based broker Just Great Tickets. "We plan on being here until at least 10 or 11 tonight selling seats to the Sox."
National ticket service, StubHub and Ticketsnow - which acts as a marketplace for ticket buyers and sellers - is seeing spikes in sales activity not only in Chicago, but in the homes of other World Series' contenders, Houston and St. Louis.
In Chicago, tickets on StubHub are already going from a low of $900 to the most expensive ticket online at this time, $9,000 for a seat in section 120, row 24 of U.S. Cellular Field. StubHub spokesman Sean Pate said the spike in price began as soon as the Sox clinched their place in the World Series.
"Sales have been very impressive," said Pate. "We are selling 12 times the amount of tickets than last year's World Series when the Red Sox were playing." More>>>
