With the Bengals having their best season in more than 15 years, law enforcement officials are warning fans to pay close attention to sources of game tickets.
Cincinnati police say a rise in counterfeiting operations has accompanied the increased demand for tickets. They expect it to continue, as the team's home games are sold out for the remainder of the regular season.
Sgt. Roger D. Robbins of the Cincinnati police investigative unit said police decided to issue the warning because of the impending matchup Nov. 20 between the 7-2 Bengals and the NFL's only undefeated team, the Indianapolis Colts.
Robbins said fans who buy tickets from unlicensed scalpers on the street are taking a big chance.
"We typically aren't able to follow up on those complaints because we can't track the sellers down," he said. "When you buy from people on the street, you do so at your own risk."
Licensed vendors in Cincinnati must display a city-issued license, printed on pink paper and clearly showing an expiration date. Fans who buy from such vendors should take down the information on their licenses, so that if there is a problem later police have a better chance of tracking down the sellers.
Anyone with information on the illegal reproduction of tickets is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (513) 352-3040. Callers may remain anonymous and may be compensated for their information. Source>>>
