Carolina Panthers are preparing for the possibility of hosting playoff games at Bank of America Stadium

Following instructions from the NFL, the Panthers have sent out invoices for playoff tickets to all personal seat license, club suite and luxury suite holders. Director of ticket sales and operations Phil Youtsey said Monday that invoices were mailed last week.

"We don't want to be premature about anything," Youtsey said.

"But this is something that's mandated by the league at this time of the year, and they instruct all teams in similar positions to do this.

"It's certainly a possibility that we have to prepare for, and it would be an honor to host a game or two games at Bank of America Stadium where our fan support has been tremendous all year and has helped create a great home-field advantage for us."

The Panthers are 8-3 and alone in first place in the NFC South standings. The Seattle Seahawks (9-3) have the NFC's best record, but the Panthers and Chicago Bears are only a game back.

Still, nothing is guaranteed because the Panthers face a difficult schedule in their final five regular-season games.

It starts Sunday at home against the Falcons, and ends Jan. 1 against Atlanta in the Georgia Dome. The Falcons are 7-4 and tied with Tampa Bay for second in the NFC South.

The Panthers will host the Bucs on Dec. 11 and Dallas (7-4) on Christmas Eve. The only remaining game against a team with a losing record is Dec. 18 against the Saints (3-8) in Baton Rouge.

Winning a majority of those final five games likely would put the Panthers in position to host at least one playoff game. The last time a postseason game was played here was when the Panthers hosted Dallas in a first-round game on their way to Super Bowl XXXVIII after the 2003 season.

Carolina's only other home playoff game was also against Dallas, after the 1996 season.

Youtsey said ticket prices increase for the playoffs, and the rates and handling fees are determined by the NFL. In general, ticket holders can expect playoff prices to rise by about 40 percent from the regular-season cost. Youtsey said playoff tickets will range from $59 for the least-expensive seats to $400 for premium seats.

According to NFL rules, the invoices are for a two-game package. If the Panthers don't host a game or only host one, season ticket holders will receive a credit on their account that can be used in the future or can be refunded.

Full payment must be made by Dec. 9.

If the Panthers host any playoff games, only a limited number of tickets will be available to people who don't hold season tickets. Youtsey said that number is likely to be about 7,000. Those tickets wouldn't go on sale until it's confirmed the Panthers will host a playoff game. Source>>>
