The twang of country guitars will join the roar of high-performance engines again next year when Kentucky Speedway uncorks its 2006 pre-race concert lineup.

As in past years, all concerts are on the Turn 1 concourse and free with Speedway admission. That's because, general manager and executive vice president Mark F. Cassis says, "With so much competition for the entertainment dollar, we need to keep adding components."

Besides the lineup of concerts to go with races, the Speedway is also looking at several stand-alone (no race) concerts similar to Tim McGraw's show last year.

"I can't say who yet, but we're in the process of actively bidding on stand-alones for May, July and September, plus a major major two-day rock show," Cassis says. "We have a 66,089 capacity, and with the shows we're looking at, I think we could sell it out."

This year's series of pre- and post-race freebies:

Cowboy Crush: The five-member female group still hasn't released its first CD, but it single releases are a hot ticket on radio, the concert circuit and CMT with songs such as "Nobody Ever Died of a Broken Heart." Look for them May 13, before the "Kentucky 150."

Lonestar: With 10 No. 1 singles, including "Mr. Mom" and "I'm Already There," as well as a CMA Vocal Group of the Year award, the Texas quartet breezes in June 17 before the Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo.

Charlie Daniels Band: An icon on the country circuit, the burly Daniels is on his Salute to America Tour. His "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and "Uneasy Rider" are considered country classics. He'll perform before the July 8 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series Built Ford Tough 225 presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers.

Hot Apple Pie: Led by Fairfield native and Cincinnati favorite Brady Seals, formerly of the group Little Texas, Apple Pie is a newcomer with one major hit - "Hillbillies" - and another one climbing the charts - "We're Makin' Up." The group takes the stage following the Aug. 13 Indy Racing League IndyCar Series 300-mile Race.
