UTEP officials are encouraging local and out-of-town fans to purchase tickets to the Dec. 21 GMAC Bowl between UTEP and Toledo in Mobile, Ala., from the University Ticket Center, located at the corner of Glory Road (formerly Baltimore) and Mesa Street.
Tickets will go sale at 10 a.m. today, either in person or by calling 747-5234. Ticket prices are $15 (end zone) and $45 (sideline). A $1.50 university surcharge will be applied to each ticket sold. In addition, a $3 surcharge per ticket will be applied to all phone orders. Tickets can be mailed at a cost of either $5 (certified mail) or $20 (FedEx overnight service).
Wheelchair and disabled tickets are located in the South End Zone, accessible through Gate 6. All wheelchair and disabled tickets should be purchased through the GMAC Bowl Ticket Office, (251) 635-0011.
Hanel update: Junior defensive lineman Justin Hanel, who suffered an ankle injury in the season finale Nov. 29 at SMU, will return to practice Wednesday, UTEP head coach Mike Price said.
Hanel has worn a walking boot the past couple of days.
Double duty: Former UTEP player and coach Sean Kugler, now an assistant with the Detroit Lions, is handling both the offensive line and tight ends after the recent dismissals of head coach Steve Mariucci and other assistant coaches, UTEP assistant athletic director for football operations Nate Poss said.
As a result, Poss said Kugler has been sleeping at the office.
Checking it out: Price, junior quarterback Jordan Palmer and senior linebacker Thomas Howard will travel to Mobile today for a GMAC Bowl press conference. They also will attend meetings and tour Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
Two days off: The Miners will get today and Tuesday off and will return to practice Wednesday. They will practice at 3:45 p.m. through Saturday.
