Major League Baseball announced today the unanimous sale approval of the Cincinnati Reds from Carl H. Lindner, the chief executive officer of Cincinnati Reds LLC, to a group led by Robert H. Castellini. W. Joseph Williams, Jr. and Thomas L. Williams will also purchase significant ownership interests in the Reds.

Mr. Castellini will serve as the new ownership group's control person. Mr. Lindner will continue to have an ownership interest in the ball club.

"Carl is a good friend and I will miss his advice and input on a wide variety of baseball issues," said Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. "Meanwhile, I look forward to working with Mr. Castellini and the Williams brothers. They will provide excellent local ownership and will continue the great tradition of Cincinnati baseball that has been ongoing for more than 130 years."
