Washington D.C. Teams Select StubHub as Ticket Partner of Choice
Washington Redskins and Georgetown Hoyas Join Wizards and Capitals to Give Metro Fans Added Choice for Tickets
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 23, 2006 -- StubHub, the fans' ticket marketplace, has signed agreements with two more Washington D.C. area teams to help benefit Beltway fans with greater access to see their high-demand teams play. Both the Washington Redskins of the NFL and Georgetown Hoyas of the Big East Conference have agreed to long term partnership arrangements with StubHub, aligning themselves with the nation's only open and guaranteed ticket marketplace where fans can buy as well as sell their tickets.
The Redskins and Hoyas join the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals as official partners for 2006 and beyond, enabling fans of each team to buy or sell their tickets from a team preferred partner. With season ticket holders occasionally unable to attend every single regular season game, posting unused tickets for sale via StubHub provides more fans an opportunity to sit in premium seats. The ticket holder meanwhile can recoup an otherwise lost investment. When tickets are purchased second hand, area teams benefit by having another passionate fan in a seat supporting the team and patronizing stadium offerings.
"The Redskins are excited by the offering StubHub brings to our loyal season ticket holders and Redskins fans everywhere," said Karl Swanson, the Redskins senior vice president. "With 'Skins games sold out for the season, our legions of fans regularly seek a safe and convenient place to buy tickets for our games. We hope the relationship with StubHub will encourage those fans to purchase tickets in their secure online environment where all transactions are guaranteed, and not from scalpers on the street."
The addition of the Redskins expands StubHub's depth chart of official NFL team partners to eight that also includes the Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears, Cincinnati Bengals, Atlanta Falcons, San Diego Chargers, Detroit Lions and Houston Texans.
Georgetown University joins StubHub as the company's eighth NCAA team partner, a roster that boasts some of the finest athletic programs in the country including the University of Southern California and Stanford. With Georgetown basketball tickets often in limited supply, and Big East opponents like UConn, Villanova and Syracuse on the schedule, fans are looking for greater access. For Hoyas season ticket holders who can't make every game and elect to sell on the StubHub marketplace, the company offers a unique opportunity to direct proceeds back to the university's athletic department, helping the program while giving another Hoyas fan the chance to see the team play.
