Scotiabank Place arena announced that the St. Michael's Majors have moved two of their home games against the Ottawa 67's to the home of the Ottawa Senators. The Majors will host the 67's at Scotiabank Place on Saturday, Dec. 16 and Saturday, Feb. 3 with both games having 2 p.m. start times. The games were originally scheduled to take place in Toronto at St. Michael's College School Arena.
"These games represent the only two to be played during the OHL's regular season in an NHL venue making it a great experience for players and fans," said Majors and Senators owner, Eugene Melnyk. "Ottawa is gearing up to host the World Juniors in December 2008, so it's critically important that all of us within Hockey Country do what we can to showcase junior hockey and the abundance of talent that exists within the OHL."
The neutral site contests will mark the third and fourth times the teams will have met at the home of the Senators. It also marks the back end of two home-and-home series between the clubs as the 67's host the Majors at the Civic Centre each Friday before their meetings at Scotiabank Place.
The 2 p.m. meeting on Feb. 3 will also serve as a pre-cursor for another battle of Ontario as the Ottawa Senators will host the Toronto Maple Leafs later that evening at 7 p.m.
The games will not only provide Senators fans a chance to the see the Melnyk-owned Majors, it will also allow 67's fans to catch their team in action for two additional games.
This is great for both our team and our fans, said 67's owner Jeff Hunt. It's another example of the great partnership in Ottawa between the Senators and the 67's. We're excited.
Both contests will also provide Senators fans with a chance to see 2006 third-round draft pick Kaspars Daugavins. Drafted 91st overall, Daugavins leads the Majors and is tied for 19th in OHL scoring with six goals and 15 assists in 17 games
Tickets for each game are just $14.00 for Adults, $13.00 for Seniors (65 years of age and over) and Students, and $12.00 for Children (12 and under).
