New York Yankees’ Big Unit Struggles In Loss To Cincinnati Reds
TAMPA, Fla. - Randy Johnson concentrated on his split-finger fastball, and it was unhittable. His other pitches were the problem.
Johnson gave up four runs and six hits over four innings and Jason Giambi hit his second homer of the spring in the
New York Yankees’ 6-3 loss to a
Cincinnati Reds split squad on Friday night.
Johnson struggled early, giving up three runs, three hits and throwing two wild pitches in the first. He also allowed a fourth-inning solo homer to Wily Mo Pena.
“I threw a lot of split-fingers today, and was really pleased with that,” Johnson said. “I got some easy groundballs and a lot of swings and misses. Everything else that I threw there was a swing and the ball was put in play.”
Cincinnati starter Eric Milton, a former Yankees’ minor leaguer, gave up one run and five hits over five innings.
