LeAnn Rimes won't host the talent competition show "Nashville Star"
NEW YORK (Billboard) -- For the second consecutive week, country music star
LeAnn Rimes won't host the talent competition show "Nashville Star" because she is suffering from a broken blood vessel on one of her vocal chords.
Another popular country artist,
Sara Evans, will fill in as host of the USA Networks series until Rimes' return.
With Rimes ailing, Evans led the proceedings last week on the show, which airs Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET. The artist has been a guest performer twice previously during the three-season run of "Nashville Star."
Doctors expect Rimes to have "a speedy recovery" from the injury, which is a result of a severe bout with viral bronchitis. She hopes to be back in place for the April 26 "Nashville Star" season finale.
Besides missing the show's live episodes, Rimes has canceled planned appearances in Texas and Arizona. She is due to open an extensive tour April 29 in Orlando, Florida, and has dates scheduled through late August. It's not yet clear whether her illness will affect the tour.
Rimes will be on the road in support of her new Curb album, "This Woman." Released in February, the album debuted at No. 2 on Billboard's Top Country Albums tally and has sold 288,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Evans, meanwhile, is due to join Alan Jackson's spring U.S. tour Friday . Her 2003 album "Restless" (RCA) debuted at No. 3 on the Top Country Albums list and has sold 839,000 U.S. copies.
Evans is among the artists scheduled to perform during the 40th annual Academy of Country Music Awards, set for May 17 in Las Vegas. She is nominated for top female vocalist, while "Restless" is up for album of the year.
