Once again, there wasn't much to say for the Earnhardt team as a frustrating season continues.
FORT WORTH - During one of the 11 cautions in the
Samsung/Radio Shack 500 on Sunday, Dale Earnhardt Jr., had a curious one-way conversation with his pit crew.
Over his two-way radio, Earnhardt said he needed some feedback from his crew about what was happening with his car, which was running alternately tight and loose. Earnhardt was not happy.
"All I'm hearing is '10-4, 10-4, 10-4, 10-4,' " he said.
Once again, there wasn't much to say for the Earnhardt team as a frustrating season continues. Earnhardt came in ninth for his second top-10 finish in the last three races, but he was running fifth through 300 laps before falling off pace.
In seven races this season, Earnhardt has led for just two laps. He has not led in the last six starts. He is currently No. 15 in the
Nextel Cup points standings.
"Things are coming around a little, but we had a top to five (finish) going there," said Earnhardt. "We just couldn't get it done. I don't know. We changed tires on the car, and it changed the way the car drove every time.
"You would think that with all the technology and money, they could make a tire that wouldn't do that. That's real frustrating."
It has been that way all season. Last year, Earnhardt had his best run, winning six times and finishing in the top five 16 times. However, he and teammate Michael Waltrip switched crew chiefs, with Tony Eury Jr., going from Earnhardt to Waltrip, and Pete Rondeau taking over the Earnhardt camp.
