SIKESTON — Ticket sales for the 53rd Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo are about 5 percent higher than the same time last year, and rodeo officials anticipate it to be even further ahead by event’s end next month.
“All of the artists are really peaking in their careers right now, and I feel confident we’ve managed to get a really strong lineup,” said 2005 rodeo general chairman Mike Conway.
Kicking off entertainment for the rodeo, which is set for Aug. 10-13, is Montgomery Gentry on Wednesday followed by Sara Evans on Thursday, Dierks Bentley on Friday, and closing the annual event on Saturday will be Darryl Worley.
“Dierks (Click Here for Presale Password for Dierks Portland, Oregon) is in the lead (of ticket sales) followed by Montgomery Gentry, and Sara Evans and Darryl Worley are about even right now,” Conway said Friday, adding there are still plenty of tickets available for each night.
Currently Worley’s single, “If Something Should Happen,’’ is No. 10 on the Hot Country Songs list, and Bentley’s album, ‘‘Modern Day Drifter,’’ is No. 9 on the Top Country Albums chart.
Conway pointed out Evans recently released a new single, “A Real Fine Place to Start,” and Montgomery Gentry has several No. 1 hits.
Rodeo officials did receive a quick scare Friday, though, when they learned Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry broke his ankle, Conway said. More>>>
