American idiots? Don't you believe it.
Green Day, along with opening act Jimmy Eat World, without a doubt put on the most memorable rock concert of the year at the SBC Center on Sunday.
And you won't get any argument from the more than 10,600 fans that screamed along all night with the high-energy, multi-platinum-selling headliner.
Much has been made of Green Day's punk rock opera, "American Idiot," with comparisons to The Who's "Tommy," but Sunday it was more pure, tight and brutal "Live at Leeds."
If this was kick-butt, slashing pop punk, it was also show biz as Green Day's focal point proved — whether soaking fans with a super soaker or mooning the audience.
Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong gives Mick Jagger and Iggy Pop a run for the title of most energetic frontman. The whippet guitarist simply didn't stop during the nearly two-hour concert.
Green Day opened with "American Idiot," followed by "Jesus of Suburbia," a tour de force combination of Ziggy Stardust and "American Graffiti," making this Green Day's superior "Crocodile Rock." More>>>
