Las Vegas, the self-proclaimed entertainment capital of the world, will, for one weekend in 2007, be the basketball capital of the world.
In an unprecedented and historic move, the NBA will bring one of its marquee events -- the All-Star Game -- to a non-NBA city.
NBA Commissioner David Stern announced Friday that the league's 57th annual All-Star Game will be played in Las Vegas on Feb. 18, 2007, at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The 2006 game is scheduled to be played Feb. 19 in Houston.
"Las Vegas does every day what we do that weekend," Stern said at a packed news conference at the Las Vegas Convention Center. "We're going to give our guests a Las Vegas experience."
The key word is "guests." Because the league will control the Thomas & Mack's 18,500 seats, the public will be precluded from buying tickets to the All-Star Game, though some seats are expected to be available for the ancillary events. More>>>
