Several years ago, Marion County passed an ordinance making it illegal to scalp tickets to the NCAA men's Final Four basketball tournament. Ticket brokers have found a new way to charge lots of money in the form of Final Four "packages."
The Final Four last came to Indianapolis in the year 2000. It'll be here again next spring and already, tickets and hotel rooms are hot commodities.
All the major hotels downtown are booked for Final Four weekend. Depending on how you book a hotel room, you can pay a little more than normal or a lot more.
"Ticket brokers or ticket re-sellers are now coupling those high-demand tickets with also sought-after hotel rooms to really boost the price of hotel rooms from - you know - a hotel room that might go for $240 a night is now going for $4,000 a night,” said Anthony Schoettle, Indianapolis Business Journal.
A quick online trip makes it easy to see what Schoettle’s talking about. One broker is selling two tickets to the tournament, four nights at a four-star hotel and some additional services for more than $8,300. More>>>
