A performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony at Carnegie Hall on January 23 will raise money for the victims of the earthquake that struck South Asia in October 2005.
The performance will feature musicians from the New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Emerson String Quartet, and other ensembles, as well as students, graduates, and faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, the Juilliard School, and the Mannes College of Music. Glenn Dicterow, the concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, will serve as concertmaster.
Indian pianist and conductor George Mathew, who organized the event, will lead the orchestra.
