Tell Congress Your Concerns with Higher Programming Fees for Satellite TV Providers

Tell Congress Your Concerns with Higher Programming Fees for Satellite TV Providers As part of the reauthorization of the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act ("SHVIA"), Congress is considering inserting a provision into the legislation that could result in rate increases for satellite TV subscribers. As early as next week, the House and Senate Judiciary Committee may vote on the SHVIA reauthorization bill that would increase the cost that satellite TV providers pay to continue delivering the programming you enjoy. The proposed changes in the law mandate a rate increase for the satellite industry, yet leave the cable industry's rates untouched. The legislation would increase the cost to all satellite TV providers and potentially affect all satellite subscribers. We are particularly concerned with the House version of the bill. This bill would increase the costs for programming for satellite tv providers. On the other hand, we have far less concerns with the Senate version which we believe takes a much more balanced approach. In both versions, the increases in programming costs would only apply to satellite tv providers. Congress is not considering similar rate adjustments for cable. We think this is unfair to all satellite tv subscribers You need to tell Congress that programmers already charge too much for the programming that you enjoy viewing, and that you oppose higher rates. It is important, now more than ever for consumers to send a message to lawmakers in Washington: "The proposed royalty rate increase for satellite companies is unfair...any rate increase for satellite companies will mean a rate increase for consumers." We must keep up this fight and continue to tell elected officials that the proposed royalty rate increase for satellite is unfair. Tell Congress that a rate increase for satellite companies will mean a rate increase for you, the consumer.

TAKE ACTION NOW! Please take action now by letting your senators and representative in Congress know that you are opposed to the proposed rate increase on satellite TV providers.
