2005 Festival Announcement: Wakarusa Music & Camping Festival Clinton Lake in Lawrence Kansas
Located on Clinton Lake in Lawrence, Kansas, the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival offers concert fans in the Midwest a rare opportunity to see an exciting and diverse lineup of hard-touring acts.
Last year's introductory event featured eclectic groups like Drums & Tuba, Kaki King, Tea Leaf Green, Papa Mali, Woven, Marc Broussard, and the Benevento/Russo Duo, as well as festival stalwarts Keller Williams, O.A.R., Galactic, Particle, Leftover Salmon, and Sound Tribe Sector 9. Wakarusa, named for a Native American term meaning "waist-deep" (or "ass-deep," as some organizers call it), also drew varied groups such as Guided By Voices, Los Lonely Boys, The Samples, and Robert Randolph and the Family Band.
More information on the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival can be found at
wakarusafestival.com, along with ticketing links, a forum, and plenty of photos from '04.In addition to hosting the Wakarusa Music and Camping Festival, Lawrence, Kansas, is also home to the University of Kansas, giving it a rich and eclectic cultural background that compares favorably to noted "hip" towns like Berkley, California, Austin, Texas, and Boulder, Colorado.
Even without Wakarusa's tremendous music lineup, 1,500-acre Clinton Lake Park would be attraction enough. Along with nearly 500 campsites (both primitive and upgraded), the site offers three nine-hole Frisbee golf courses, mountain biking, miles of hiking trails, canoeing, swimming, extensive wildlife, volleyball, and almost anything else you could imagine.
