Mike Howard arrived at Marsh Supermarket, 1013 N. Forest Ave, Marion, at 9 a.m. Monday expecting to be first in line to buy Colts tickets, which went on sale at 10 a.m. He was, but he still didn't get the Colts-Steelers Monday Night Football tickets he wanted. An Upland resident and longtime Pittsburgh Steeler fan, Howard left the Marsh shortly after arriving because he thought Ticketmaster would hold a lottery and draw numbers to see who would purchase tickets first. He returned at 9:55 to find out that was not the case. To the surprise of all 20 fans in line at 10 a.m., Ticketmaster did not hold a lottery because there weren't enough people waiting in line. The agency holds a lottery only if there is a line an hour before the tickets go on sale. Colts tickets were instead sold on a first-come, first-served basis. When Marsh employees announced at 10:37 that only single tickets were left for all eight regular season games, Howard was kicking himself for not sticking around when he first arrived. More>>>

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Buddy Guy made blues history with harmonica man Junior Wells, but always reached out to younger partners like Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck.
His choice for Wednesday's opening-slot stand at the Hollywood Bowl was a bit of a shocker: Pop star John Mayer, the young singer and guitarist who won a 2003 Grammy for his hit tune "Your Body Is a Wonderland," brought along his solid body guitar to trade fours with Guy midset on the latter's classic "Feels Like Rain."
Mayer, a Stevie Ray Vaughan fan until he heard Guy play, left the pop swamps far behind him as he drew inspiration from his idol. He roved his own wonderland, at one point throwing out a dissonant passage of swift, Hendrix-style chords that Guy easily topped without humiliating his guest.
This was a liaison made in their blue heaven. Mayer knows his blues and deployed a big, clear sound with phrasing almost as clear and memorable as his host. Guy favored him with a big grin as he answered with dirty, burning courtesy. They were having so much fun that they forgot all their other numbers and filled half the set with this one.
The headliner, Etta James, took the stage with her booming Roots Band, but the screeching trumpets, trombone, organ patches and pile-driver drumming and bass playing did not have -- what would you call it? -- the grandeur, the elevation, the undeniable conviction, the historical weight of Guy's outfit. The University of South Carolina has established a school record for football season tickets sold, Athletics Director Eric Hyman announced today.
The Gamecocks have sold 62,618 season tickets for the 2005 football campaign, surpassing the previous mark of 62,103, set in 2002. The numbers do not include student tickets and tickets contractually obligated to visiting teams.
"This is a tremendous reflection on the enthusiasm generated for Coach Steve Spurrier and Gamecock Football," said Hyman. "To set the all-time season ticket record speaks volumes about the fans and what the future has in store for our football program."
Because of the spike in season ticket sales many Gamecock Club members will only receive partial game packages for the upcoming 2005 football season. The two partial season game packages consist of a six-game package which includes all home games except Clemson, and a four-game package which consists of all home games except Alabama, Florida and Clemson.
Season tickets will be mailed on Friday, August 5. Refunds for members not receiving full game packages will be mailed on Thursday, August 11.
In addition, all home single-game tickets and USC's allotment of all individual road game tickets with the exception of the Arkansas game, have been sold out. The remaining tickets for the Arkansas contest, set for Saturday, November 5 in Fayetteville, are on sale now for Gamecock Club members. Tickets for the general public for the Arkansas game only will go sale on Monday, August 1 at 8:30 a.m. at the USC ticket office on Rosewood Drive or by calling 800-472-3267.More>>>
Police in the Moncton area are warning Rolling Stones fans to be wary of buying fake tickets for an upcoming Labour Day show.
The RCMP there say a tip led to a raid at a home that turned up a template for printing bogus Stones tickets for the sold-out Sept. 3 show at Magnetic Hill.
"The quality of the tickets is very, very poor," said Constable Michel Mercier of Moncton RCMP. "Any person being a bit alert should be able to detect that is a counterfeit."
Mercier says the counterfeits are smoother and thinner and the ink isn't as dark. The real ones are printed on special paper and have secret codes on them so concert officials can identify whether they are legitimate.
The Stones Moncton show could be the largest concert ever held in Atlantic Canada – the site can accommodate about 60,000 people.
"There may be 1,000 tickets on the street right now," said Mercier, who says the RCMP arrested a 46-year-old man. The man, whose name has yet to be released, will appear in court at a later date. More>>>

Ticket sales are slower than expected for the Washington Huskies season opener Sept. 3 against Air Force at Qwest Field, but promoters aren't publicly worried -- yet.
Event promoter Bob Walsh could not give a precise number of sales through TicketMaster yesterday, but estimated that about 15,000 total tickets had been sold.
According to a Washington spokesman, the Huskies ticket department had sold 8,221 as of yesterday afternoon, just 23 percent of its allotted 35,000 tickets. Air Force Academy sports information director Troy Garnhart said the military academy sold all of its 500 tickets.
"(That) is slow, obviously," Walsh said. "We're doing a fairly significant campaign that just started. It entails a considerable amount of TV and radio and other promotions that Comcast is doing for us. With the football season coming up, and when people realize that Air Force is coming to town, that they'll see (new UW coach Tyrone Willingham) for the first time, sales should pick up considerably."
With the Huskies coming off a 1-10 season, the current number of tickets sold is a far cry from Walsh's target figure of 64,000.
Yesterday afternoon, you could log on to TicketMaster.com and purchase 10 seats -- all in a row -- at the 50-yard line of Qwest Field's first level. You could also buy 10 together at the 45-yard line of the more-expensive ticket level. More>>>
